Program Description

Event Details

"A date which will live in infamy…" The famous phrase rallied the nation, but what was the tone in Dutchess County? On December 7, 1941 the United States - ranked 17th in the world in military power at the time -  was unexpectedly plunged into World War II. Japan’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbor stunned the American public and galvanized support for the war. A grueling 1,365 days later we emerged as the world's first Superpower. The program explores the questions “Should we have been, and could we have been, more prepared?” Presented by Jeffrey Urbin, Education Specialist, at the Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, and Shannon Butler, Historian, Poughkeepsie Public Library District

The Friends' Annual Meeting will be held at the start of the program. Join us for our report, presentations, and refreshments.

Registration required.
