Event Details

The world turned upside down when thirteen British colonies on the Atlantic Coast rose in rebellion, won their independence, and established a new form of government that inspired centuries of democratic movements around the globe.

Please join the Gilder Lehrman Institute for American History for a very special Book Breaks featuring Ken Burns and Geoffrey C. Ward in which we will discuss the companion book (available November 11) to the highly anticipated six-part documentary that will premiere on PBS on November 16.

Ken Burns has been making documentary films for almost fifty years. He has been honored with dozens of major awards, including seventeen Emmy Awards, two Grammy Awards, two Oscar nominations, and the Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize for The Civil War.

Geoffrey C. Ward is a historian and screenwriter. Ward is the author of nineteen books and has collaborated with Ken Burns since 1984 on films such as The War, The Civil War, Baseball, and Jazz.

Please note that this is not a PPLD program and that the library is sharing it as part of the Big Read.
